What causes acne scarring?

Any type of acne can cause scarring, but it usually occurs when severe acne lesions damage the skin’s deeper layers, leading to the formation of scars as the skin attempts to heal. Not treating acne promptly or effectively can increase the risk of scarring. Certain skin types, such as oily or combination skin, may be more susceptible to acne and subsequent scarring. Individuals with darker skin tones may also be at a higher risk of developing post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation or keloid scars in response to acne lesions

Our approach

01  Get a personalized treatment plan

We cannot stress this one enough – everyone’s skin is different. Treatment plans that you see online for one person may or may not work for you depending on your skin type, lifestyle, and habits. The cause, severity, and associated complications (pigmentation, keloids, etc.) can change your treatment plan. Get a personalized treatment plan from a licensed and experienced practitioner, it will save you both time and money

02  Receive your treatments

Depending on your skincare concerns and goals, the treatment plan may be very different. Generally, we recommend microneedling or laser treatments for acne scarring. Microneedling is a quick and simple treatment for improving skin texture and minor scarring. Laser treatments are recommended for those with more severe acne scarring. Specific types of laser treatment would depend on the severity and your lifestyle (i.e., whether your school or work allows you to have up to 10 days of downtime or visit for multiple sessions over a short period of time)

03  Stay consistent

Consistency is key, especially for taking care of acne and the subsequent acne scarring. Now that you understand the cause and the recommended treatment plan, you need to follow through with a consistent skincare regimen that maintains your results. As much as we love you, we don’t want to see you coming in again for the same issue!
