Ask Amy about Lips

Feb 14, 2022 | U Med

Today’s post is a Q&A session with our amazing injector Amy.

And in honor of Valentine’s Day, this Q&A is all about lips!

Q: What’s your favorite treatment to do?

A: It’s music to my ears when someone gives me the creative freedom for a full face rejuvenation. Otherwise, I’d say give me all the lips!

Q: Do you offer numbing for people who are nervous about the pain of injections?

A: Numbing for lips is always used and numbing for other areas isn’t really needed but if requested, we definitely can!

Q: What’s your favorite brand of lip filler?

A: I love Refyne and Kysse.

Q: What’s the difference between a lip flip and filler?

A: A Lip Flip will relax the muscle that tucks the lip under when you smile. Filler adds true volume, hydration, and definition to the lips. Both may be needed if someone has a strong “tuck under” so that the filler is more visible and the muscle isn’t working against us.

Q: How do you correct a gummy smile?

A: A gummy smile is corrected with a combination of neurotoxin (Botox or Dysport) to soften the muscles that pull the lip up, and filler which adds a smidge of volume.

Q; Does lip plumping also smooth lines?

A: Filler can definitely soften lip lines because it hydrates the lips. The type of filler used matters because some hydrate and attract more water into the lips than others.

Q: How often do you need to come in to maintain filled lips?

A: Lip filler requires maintenance every 6-12 months, but if you’re trying to BUILD, then you’ll need to come in sooner.

Q: What is Lip Building?

A: Lip building is a series of lip filler treatments using one syringe at a time until you’ve built up the desired plumpness. I’ll never do two syringes of lip filler at one time, and I always space them out 6-8 weeks apart. Gorgeous, full lips is about steadily building until we’ve reached your goal and that will just take time and patience to achieve.

Q: What to expect immediately after lip fillers?

A: Normal swelling around the borders, bruising, and some bumps can be totally normal for the first couple of weeks after lip injections.

Q: How long does it take lip filler to “set”?

A: Lip filler takes about 2-3 weeks to settle and fully heal.

Q: Can I put lipstick on after fillers?

A: We recommend waiting 24 hours after your lip filler treatment before applying lipstick, but after that, a dark-colored full coverage lipstick is great for covering up any bruising or needle marks.
