How does Masseter Botox slim your face?

Masseter is the muscle on your jaw that helps you chew. If you look into the mirror and clench your teeth, the muscles that bulk up on the sides of your face are the masseter muscles. Did you know that Botox injection in this area can help you contour and slim your jawline while reducing TMJ pain?

Botox treatments in the masseter have long been used in dental practices to help patients reduce involuntary teeth grinding and clenching which affect sleep quality and damage the teeth. Consistent teeth grinding and clenching can also cause damage in the TMJ (the temporomandibular joint that connects the lower jaw with your skull) which leads to tension headaches, jaw locking, and discomfort when opening and closing mouth. Botox injections not only reduce teeth grinding but also alleviates these symptoms related to the TMJ disorder.

How does Botox slim your face?

Enlarged masseter muscles can make our lower face appear fuller and more square-shaped than oval-shaped. By injecting Botox in the masseter muscles, we relax these muscles causing them to shrink. This provides a slimmer and more contoured jawline.

Who is an ideal candidate?

If the fuller jawline is caused by larger jaw bones, Botox treatments will not be effective. Botox treatment will only slim your face if you have enlarged masseter muscles. Best way to tell if you have enlarged masseter muscles is to clench your teeth in front of a mirror and seeing if your jawline is visibly fuller.
