How to find the best med spa for your needs

Non-invasive cosmetic treatments such as Botox and fillers have grown rapidly in popularity in recent years. Thanks to celebrities who publicly share the cosmetic enhancements that they have done on social media, the stigma around these treatments has dramatically decreased. And the number of med spas has exploded across the nation to meet the increasing demand from consumers. According to American Med Spa Association, over 1,400 net new med spas opened in 2022. It is no wonder that you hear about another med spa Grand Opening every couple of months in your neighborhood. With so many seemingly great options, how do you choose the best med spa to go to for your treatment?

Let’s start with what to avoid. Every now and then, we hear news about patients having serious negative reactions from Botox or filler treatments. In April 2024, CDC released that they have received reports of 19 patients across 19 states who experienced moderate to severe complications from counterfeit Botox injections or injections performed by unlicensed professionals. If you just spend two minutes googling key words like “fake botox”, you face an unfortunate reality that many offices operate with unethical practices. Headlines such as “I Got Fake Botox at an Unlicensed Med Spa—And It Could Have Cost Me My Life” shouldn’t be common but they unfortunately are.

The good news is that these cosmetic treatments are generally considered safe with minimal side effects if you receive it from a licensed medical facility with licensed and trained providers. This is why it is important to consider the following factors when you are looking for a med spa:

  • Are the providers licensed Plastic Surgeons, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, or Registered Nurses? State of Texas is one of the few states in the nation that allows non-medical professionals such as aestheticians and cosmetologists to perform Botox and filler injections as long as they are under a physician’s oversight. While complications are not common, they can happen, and you want to make sure that you are under the care of medical providers who understand how to treat complications. At U Med Spa, all of our providers who provide injectable services are licensed medical professionals and have gone through multiple years of training
  • Are they an established facility with consistently satisfied patient reviews? Check out their reviews on Google. Are the customers satisfied with their treatment results? What do customers say about the overall experience at the spa? Do they have long-term customers who have come back to them many times? Founded in 2007, U Med Spa has been the leading provider in the Plano and Frisco area servicing over 25k patients cumulatively. Most of our patients are long-term patients who have been with us for many years. Check out our client reviews because they speak for themselves
  • Do they provide complimentary follow-up appointments? There are a lot of places that offer complimentary consultations to get your foot into the door, but what about your follow-up appointments? Do they truly care about your satisfaction with the treatment? At U Med Spa, we offer complimentary follow-up appointments two weeks following the treatments for any necessary touch-ups or to answer any questions you may have
  • Do they offer prices that are too good to be true? Well, they may be too good to be true for reason

Don’t be afraid to call your local med spas and ask these questions before you make a decision! One last note – once you are in a treatment room, don’t be pressured into receiving the treatment if it doesn’t feel right. Ask all your questions during the consultation, and if you don’t feel comfortable with the treatment after the consultation, it is totally okay to say no.
