Supercharge your collagen with PRF Microneedling

Ever heard about “Vampire Facial”? Advanced microneedling treatment with platelet rich fibrin (PRF) is often called a “Vampire Facial” because it involves using your blood and has anti-aging benefits. Come with us to learn about this advanced treatment.

What is Microneedling?

Let’s start with the basics – what is microneedling? Microneedling is a collagen induction therapy which uses tiny needles to puncture the skin causing our skin to begin a natural healing process and produce more collagen and elastin. It is a minimally invasive treatment that takes about 1 hour including the time required for topical numbing. Your skin may be red and sensitive for 1 – 2 days after the treatment, but you can return to normal activities thereafter.

What are the benefits of Microneedling?

According to American Association of Dermatology, benefits of Microneedling treatments include the following:

  • Smooths fine lines
  • Reduces acne scars and stretch marks
  • Improves skin texture
  • Minimizes pores

When performed by licensed and experienced providers over multiple sessions, the treatment should induce collagen to fill in holes in your skin to even out your skin.

How is PRF Microneedling different from regular Microneedling?

PRF Microneedling supercharges the collagen production with platelet rich fibrin (PRF) derived from your own blood. Prior to your treatment, our licensed Phlebotomist will draw your blood, spin with a centrifuge, and derive the growth factors, also known as the “liquid gold”. Growth factors are then topically applied to the treatment area(s) and then microneedled into your skin. Growth factors increase our body’s natural production of collagen making this Microneedling treatment more effective.

When do you see the results?

You will begin to notice a brighter and more even skin about one to two week after your first session but full results will not show until 4-6 weeks later because it takes time for our skin to naturally produce collagen and elastin. To see optimal results, especially to treat acne scars and stretch marks, most patients need at least 3 sessions, spaced out by 4-6 weeks.

How long do the results last?

Results last for up to a year. As we age, our skin naturally loses collagen and the results will start to fade. In order to maintain the results, we recommend consistent treatment every year to prevent collagen loss.

Are there any side effects?

Microneedling treatments have minimal side effects when performed by licensed and trained professionals. According to Cleveland Clinic, microneedling treatments are safe procedures with minor side effects including bruising, scarring, and skin infection. At U Med Spa, all of our providers are highly trained and experienced, greatly reducing the risks of side effects.

Who should not have Microneedling?

You may not be a candidate for microneedling if you have the following conditions. Speak with your provider about these conditions prior to your treatment or book a skincare consultation to make sure that you are a candidate for the treatment.

  • Allergic to salicylates, like aspirin, phenol, or hydroquinone
  • Have any active acne, open wounds, active injections, rashes, or skin reactions
  • Have history of an allergic reaction to a peeling agent
  • Moderate-to-severe chronic skin diseases such as eczema or psoriasis
  • Have keloidal tendencies, keratosis, rosacea, diabetes, or weakened immune system

What should I expect from my treatment?

Read through the before and aftercare instructions here carefully to prepare for the treatment. If this is your first treatment, make sure to book a skincare consultation to discuss your skincare goals and your skin conditions thoroughly with our provider. If you intend to receive the PRF microneedling treatment, drink lots of water from 3 days before your treatment to ensure a smooth blood draw. You can resume normal activities after the treatment, but your skin will be red and sensitive so don’t book any important events for at least 2-3 days after the treatment.
