Top five myths for chemical peels

Chemical peels use medical-grade chemical products such as TCA, tretinoin, and salicylic acid to exfoliate the skin causing the skin to peel off and create a new skin layer. This process helps reduce fine lines, sun damage, hyperpigmentation, and melasma and improves skin texture. Commonly called a “lunchtime facial”, chemical peels are safe, effective, and fast treatment with minimal downtime

  • Myth #1: Chemical Peels Are Only for Acne-Prone Skin: Chemical peels improve texture, reduce wrinkles, lighten dark spots, treat acne, and rejuvenate all skin types, even for those with sensitive skin or darker skin tones
  • Myth #2: Chemical Peels Are Painful and Require Extensive Downtime: Most peels cause minimal discomfort and have little to no downtime, even for deeper treatments. Treatment itself and the healing process are both painless. After the treatment, you should expect the top layer of your skin to naturally peel off for a few days, but you can resume your normal daily activities immediately after treatment
  • Myth #3: Chemical Peels Thin the Skin: Peels remove dead skin cells and stimulate new growth, making skin stronger and more resilient. As your skin heals, it produces more collagen and elastin which strengthens and tightens your skin
  • Myth #4: You Cannot Get Chemical Peels in Summer: While it is true that you should avoid prolonged sun exposure and intense heat while you are recovering from chemical peels, lifestyle sun exposure such as driving your car, running errands, etc., is perfectly fine as long as you are protecting yourself by applying sunscreen or wearing a hat. Summertime peels can help treat discoloration and pigmentation when the damage is still fresh preventing more serious conditions such as melasma
  • Myth #5: I’ll Only Need One Session: Single session can brighten your complexion and improve skin texture. However, if you are hoping to treat acne or hyperpigmentation, we often recommend three to six sessions for optimal results
